My name is Jennifer Lin and I've been a physician for the past ten years. Despite my long-time passion toward medicine, I felt myself questioning my ability to be a physician for the next 20 years. I resented my job because of the stressful lifestyle it imposed on me. Diminishing insurance reimbursements and escalating overhead costs meant seeing more patients per day and having to worry about the lost revenue when I took a day off or went on a family vacation. As a consequence, I never took a sick day even when I was sicker than most of my patients. Instead of eating something healthy, I would grab whatever sugar laden food I could find in between seeing patients or dictating my charts. I never exercised despite preaching to my patients the benefits of daily exercise. I would leave work at the last possible minute to pick up my poor children (always the first ones to school and the last ones picked up) from daycare, be thinking about all the work I needed to finish while spending one hour of questionable “quality time” with the kids before they went to bed, and then the work day would continue with another 2 hours of paperwork before going to bed.
This way of life went on day after day until my body did something it never would have done a decade before. It literally crashed. The stress manifested itself as frequent colds, neck and low back pain, headaches, insomnia, and chronic fatigue. I was destroying and taking light of the one thing that was more valuable than all the world's riches: MY HEALTH. I realized that I needed to make some difficult choices--either continue to let my job slowly kill me or cut down my hours and take a pay cut. Needless to say, neither option seemed like a fair one to me. Why should having to regain a better quality of life mean that I had to compromise my income?
I researched my options and joined CarbonCopyPro. My life is an entirely different one now. I’ve cut down my patient care to three days a week and going to work is fun again! I get to enjoy being a mother and wife again. I have the time now to make healthy food choices and to exercise. I know what it feels like to wake up in the morning happy day after day.
If you have let yourself become your last priority, if you think happiness is only fleeting, if you have let stress ruin your health, if you believe like I did previously that the only way to get ahead financially in life is to work longer and harder than those around you, then I'm here to tell you that there is a different way to live your life. My team and I will be here to guide you once you are ready to choose a life in balance.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Lin M.D.
